Elky
Well, because of my coal incident, I was on the phone with an Al Fakher rep. and I took the advantage to find out what they were saying happened to the grape. Keep in mind this is what he said and not what I think. He told me that recently that had enhanced the flavor of their white grape. He said that in doing this they did not change the flavor, only made it stronger. He gave the usual "While I an an AF representitive I have to uphold that out tobacco products are the best in the industry yadda yadda" we get the picture. He insisted that when the stuff leaves its fine, and that the only way it could be comming out so altered is if somehitng were to happen during shipping (ring any bells?) . He also insisted that there had been two tubs sent back that he was aware of that went to their labs and the results said there was nothing wrong with them. I dont know if that helps any of you, but thats the stance AF is taking.
MechAnt
Interesting.... What's with people and changing recipes these days? If it was good to begin with, let it be! Only when there is wide spread agreement that the improvement is good, then it's a good thing.
Elky
I have a feeling that if this change is what caused all the trouble than they will soon switch back.
gr!m
That's not changing a recipe, it's raping it and coming out all bruised and ruined. I mean I had a bad batch of plum too. It smelled like ketchup and made me hurl when I smoked it, even after trying to acclimate it.
Snoopy1966
This makes me lose much respect for AF. If this is how AF Grape is going to be then, yuck. I dot like any of their flavors right now. I did smoke some AF cinnamon at Bubba's and that was really good. Something happened in shipping in a new container that is tamper proof??? wtf? Its OK I have Tangiers! That is all I buy. I just try the freebies I get of other tobacco.
TheScotsman
The last tub I had, before the current was much better. Mine doesn't seem to be as far gone as yours was, but it is "off", not to the point of getting itself hurled at the rubbish bin, bit enough that I will hold off on more for a while. This tub is the "new" packing, miniature ice-cream pail looking thing, with all the shrink wrap in place. Don't you hate it when someone has to cock-up a good product with some "improvement"? One would think they had all learned from the "new coke" incident. (ya, I know, before most of you were around... Damn, I am old as hell.)

erufiku
So basically what he said is that we are all wrong because their "lab" said the stuff is A-OK? I wish that instead of shipping it to some guys in lab coats the would just load a bowl and try their new and improved product...

ahwahoo2006
QUOTE (Elky @ Feb 14 2008, 02:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Well, New Coke was considdered a marketing stunt to sell more regular Coke once it was pulled. Maybe thats whats happening here. Actually, that is not entirely true. New Coke was developed in response to Pepsi winning huge in the "Cola Wars" of the 1980s. For most of the 20th century, Coca-Cola dominated the cola market, by something like a four or five to one share. Pepsi, however, found that their formula that blew away Coke in taste tests, just absolutely crushed it, with something like 75% of people preferring Pepsi, and they pushed this hard in their advertisements. Coca-Cola, of course, found out about this and conducted their own taste tests, and found out that Pepsi was right, people DID like it better in taste tests. So Coke rushed to make a new formula, "New Coke," that was more similar to Pepsi, and put it on the market. Sales of Pepsi, however, stayed the same, and sales of "New Coke" were awful and no one could figure out why. Coke finally figured out what it was, though. In taste tests, consumers had only been given a single sip of each soda to taste. When Coca-Cola conducted taste tests where the testers got to drink an entire can of soda, original Coke was much preferred over "New Coke" and Pepsi. "New Coke" was pulled from the market after Coke realized they had had it right originally. /marketing nerd
Luke69
that coke things cool. I can see how the first sip of coke can be bad. I really should do a taste test.
bassman65
People prefer Pepsi in smaller quantities because its sweeter apparently

The Devils Playground
OKay I read the first post about half way through and heres what I have experienced and why we will not sell Grape again.I took back several boxes after getting Ketchup. The distributor was like Neon you are crazy theres nothing wrong with it. He does not smoke Hookah, go figure. Then he tells me put it back on the shelf someone else will buy it. Then I get 2 more differnt date batches as well as I guess the old batch. Guess what,,, Oh you have played this game before and won. Yup more ketchup. ONe was the same date one was older and one was newer. I have to say i like AF alot but I will not carry AF Grape again ever. These distributors just dump this crap on anyone that is unsuspecting.Unlike the other shops in Vegas when you walk in and say OMG that was bad for any reasonable reason you get a replacement. If you walk in and say Oh I did not like tobacco X I am okay thats cool why and we decide on your next flavor choice according to what you like. When you can say dude it tasted like Ketchup it gets replaced and fast.Anyways just wanted to vent on that shaddy move by my local distributor.
